Student Program: Books 2 and up

Atlanta Suzuki Institute violin, viola, cello, and guitar students in

Suzuki Books 2 and up will enroll in a 3-hour program (including one elective choice), with the option to add up to two more elective classes.

All classes will be online in June 2021.

The following classes will be scheduled Monday, June 21 through Thursday, June 24. 

The ASI Final Concert will be held on Friday, June 25.

  • Repertoire Class

  • Choice of Elective: 

    • Drumming Class (Book 2 and up, all instruments)

    • Eurhythmics Class (Book 2 and up, all instruments)

    • Fun & Fantastic Theory Things (Book 2 and up, all instruments)

    • Fiddling Class (Book 2 and up, violin/viola/cello only)

    • Guitar Reading Ensemble (Book 2 and up, guitar only)

    • Music by Black Composers Class​ (Book 3 and up, violin only)

    • Improvisation Class (Book 4 and up, all instruments)

Students in Book 2 and up may add up to two more elective classes (from the list above) for a 4th and/or 5th hour of instruction. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend all guest artist and student recitals as well as any Institute-wide social activities. 

Musical Parenting Seminar with Dr. Shu-Yi Scott

This year, parents of Pre-Twinkle through Book 4 students will have the opportunity to register for a Musical Parenting Seminar with Dr. Shu-Yi Scott. Dr. Scott will share her personal experiences as a Suzuki cello teacher helping parents practice for 25 years and as a mother of two daughters who both play cello. Topics to be covered in this 5-hour seminar (1 hour each day, June 21-25): 

  • How to build and maintain a healthy relationship among parent, teacher, and child (Suzuki Triangle)

  • The parents' role in Musical Parenting and daily practice

  • Being better guides for children during practice when dealing with busy schedules

  • Helping children discover that mistakes are part of learning without conflicts turning into power struggles

  • Finding the grit in daily practice and guiding children when they are frustrated

  • Helping children enjoy the daily practicing process

Note: this seminar is open to parents (and teachers), regardless of student participation in ASI. The fee for the seminar is $100, and no registration fee is required to take the seminar on its own. To sign up without also registering a student participant, please use the Teacher Registration form

Early Bird Registration Fee (non-refundable): $75 per family (through April 30)

Book 2+ Program Fee (including 1 elective): $300

Musical Parenting Seminar Fee: $100

Additional Elective Course Fee: $75 per course

Note: Elective requests are not guaranteed.

Students may request a maximum of two additional elective courses.

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
