These courses will be offered in accordance with Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) guidelines. To take Suzuki teacher training, teachers must be active members of the SAA. A course may be taken as a participant or as an auditor. Participants will play the material studied in class and may register the course with the SAA. Auditors may play in class only with the permission of the instructor and may not register the course with the SAA. The tuition fee is the same for both categories of registration. Students 18 years or younger will be registered as auditors with no exceptions. As of 2015 the SAA requires that courses through Book 3 must be taken in order: ECC, Book 1, Book 2, Book 3.

Every Child Can! (ECC) is an introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas’ Teacher Development Program. In addition to exploring the elements of the Suzuki approach and its far-reaching goals, it includes an introduction to learning styles, history of the development of Suzuki education, the role of the parents, the importance of Suzuki pedagogical training, and an overview of the SAA’s role in supporting teachers and parents. A fast-paced, engaging and inspiring program, ECC includes video materials and SAA-developed courseware, and provides each participant with useful reference materials (manuals) for later study. This course is the required prerequisite for any training.

Course Requirements

All workshop participants are asked to prepare the repertoire to be studied to the point of fluent performance. Memorization is not required but is recommended. Additionally, participants should be conversant with the ideas presented in Dr. Suzuki’s Nurtured By Love.

All participants will be performing in class and are expected to provide their own instruments. It is recommended that participants bring an audio recorder and a notebook to all sessions. 100% attendance is required for registering the course.

Video Audition Process

To qualify as a participant in training courses rather than an auditor, applicants must submit a video audition of specified repertoire to the SAA, preferably well in advance of enrolling in the course. Audition processing takes approximately 2 weeks, if submitted online. Auditions submitted early have the advantage of an optional retry (with fees) within the stated deadlines if the first audition was not accepted. If auditions are not accepted, then course work will not be eligible for SAA credit registration as a participant – even if course work was completed. For further information on preparation, evaluation and audition levels, please see the SAA website at suzukiassociation.org/teachers/training/audition/, or call the SAA toll free at 888-378-9854.

Audition deadline for All Unit Training Courses:  All audition materials must be submitted and approved by course start*A discounted Audition Fee applies if audition is submitted 8-weeks or more before the course start date. If submitted within 8-weeks of the course start date, the regular audition fee will apply.
