GUEST ARTIST RECITAL

Amy Sue Barston, cellist
Melody Fader, pianist

Guest artists Amy Sue Barston, Gabriel Bolkosky and Melody Fader will present a chamber music recital on Friday, November 3 at 7:30 PM. The recital will be at the Kellett Theatre located in Broyles Arts Building and is free and open to the public.

  About Gabe

Detroit native Gabriel Bolkosky has played classical violin since early childhood. He is the executive director of The Phoenix Ensemble, a musicians collective specializing in enhancing the artistic and educational community. Gabe has performed and recorded in a wide variety of musical styles from klezmer to classical. He has also worked with a variety of artists, including Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom, John Lindberg and the Cavani String Quartet, and with the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Gabe is a much sought-after guest artist, performer, and teacher at schools and workshops nationwide.

  About Amy

Praised as “passionate and elegant” by The New York Times, cellist Amy Sue Barston has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on stages all over the world, including multiple appearances in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Ravinia Festival, The Caramoor International Music Festival, Haan Hall (Jerusalem), The Power House (Sydney, Australia), The Banff Centre for the Performing Arts (Canada), The International Musicians’ Seminar (Cornwall, England), and Chicago’s Symphony Center. Amy is also the cellist of two critically acclaimed chamber ensembles, The Corigliano Quartet and Divahn. The Corigliano Quartet has been hailed by The New York Times as having "an excellent, smooth sense of ensemble, but with each part vigorously alive," and by Strad Magazine as having "abundant commitment and mastery." Divahn is a unique all-female quartet that specializes in Middle Eastern music and improvisation using vocals, percussion, violin, cello, and an array of exotic Mediterranean instruments. Each year, Miss Barston gives recitals, master classes, chamber music performances, and solo performances with orchestra throughout the US and abroad.

About Melody

Melody Fader graduated with an MM in Collaborative Piano from Juilliard in May of 2004. She has performed solo, chamber and vocal music at venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall and The Rainbow Room in New York, the Aspen Music Festival and Chautauqua, and internationally at the Spoleto Festival in Italy and Festival Horizons in Belgium among others. Recently, Miss Fader has been a winner of the Aspen Concerto Competition and the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition. She tours as a duo team with Cellist Emilio Colón and is resident musician for the New Chamber Ballet. Melody enjoys dancing and creating interdisciplinary works with all sorts of Artists.
