ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The SAGa Weekend Workshop is a three-day musical event designed to promote excellence in music education for students, parents and teachers. Enrollment is open to students of all ages (pre-school, college, and adults) and all playing abilities.

The workshop will include a recital by renowned artists Amy Barston (cello) and Gabriel Bolkosky (violin), master classes with leading pedagogues, and seminars for parents and teachers. All events will take place at North Atlanta High Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Ga.

Students may enroll in the two-day Suzuki Workshop. Teachers may also participate in the Teaching Seminar lead by Doris Preucil, either for the full weekend or on a day-by-day basis. Teachers and parents are also welcome to observe student classes.

The Suzuki Workshop is designed for students studying violin, viola or cello Suzuki repertoire. The workshop takes place on Saturday and Sunday. The course load includes technique, repertoire, a small group lesson and an orchestra experience. Each student has the option of enrolling into additional enrichment classes for an additional fee.

The Teacher Seminar is a 12-hour course in which participants will have the opportunity to address various pedagogical concerns with Doris Preucil. Although this course is mostly aimed towards violin teachers, Ms. Preucil will also address other issues such as developing motivation, retention, and leadership skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to observe Doris Preucil work in master class setting with students of various levels and ages. Teachers are required to bring their instrument to this seminar.

Also offered for parents and teachers - Every Child Can!© An Introduction to Suzuki Education is an introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas’ Teacher Development Program. In addition to exploring the elements of the Suzuki approach and its far-reaching goals, it includes an introduction to learning styles, history of the development of Suzuki education, the role of the parents, the importance of Suzuki pedagogical training, and an overview of the SAA’s role in supporting teachers and parents. A fast-paced, engaging and inspiring program, ECC includes video materials and SAA-developed courseware, and provides each participant with useful reference materials (manuals) for later study. This course is the required prerequisite for any subsequent Suzuki training.
